Henderson

Henderson, the ‘Jewel on Ohio’ is located on the southern bank of the beautiful Ohio River. The city sits on a high and dry bluff, 70 feet above the river’s low water mark. The community was named landholder, Col. Richard Henderson who originally bought 17,000,000 acres of land from the Cherokee Indians. In 1778, the Richard Henderson Company was granted 200,000 acres in recognition of the $50,000 paid by the company to the Indians in the Treaty of Watagua. Henderson was incorporated as a town in 1810 and became a city only in 1867.
